APNA ASMAAN directed by adman turned filmmaker Kaushik Roy is all set to hit the theatres on 7th September 2007. The film which is inspired by a real life teenage artist named ORKO recently won the 'German Star of India' at the Stuttgart Film festival. The unusual treatment and gripping story makes the film one of the most intriguing and remarkably different films of the year.

APNA ASMAAN, an urban drama is a story of love and redemption. It has an attractive star cast comprising Irrfan Khan, Shobana (South mega star), Rajat Kapoor and Anupam Kher. New find Dhruv P Panjuani plays the role of Buddhi - Irrfan and Shobana's teenage son. The film will be released across India in all the major multiplex cities.

Set in a busy, crowded, yet uncaring megapolis called Mumbai, it is at its first level Ravi (Irrfan Khan) and Padmini's (Shobana) love story- a couple torn apart by their son Buddhi's (Dhruv) intellectual handicap problem. For them it is a cruel life to suffer the disgrace of being labeled as parents of an 'abnormal' child. Though Buddhi displays his flair for art, his parents, with their middle class insecurities, neither recognize nor encourages his talent. Driven by the social insecurities, the parents chase an unreal dream of seeing their son as a normal student who, like others, must become an engineer or doctor. While Dr. Sen (Rajat Kapoor) tries hard to make Padmini accept the reality, Ravi's accidental meeting with Dr. Sathya - the maverick scientist, leads him to an experimental drug that can make Buddhi a genius. The parents' obsession to have a genius child takes their life on a roller coaster ride that is sure to keep the audience riveted to their seats.

Quite appropriately, the tagline for this thought provoking film addressing parents and children says: "How far would you go to make your child a genius?"
The film is written, directed by Kaushik Roy and Co-Produced by Umang Pahwa. Other credits include Lyrics: Mehboob, Music: Lesle Lewis, Cinematographer: Barun Mukherjee, Associate Director: Harshavardhan Kulkarni. Editor: Amitabh Shukla, Sound Designer: Rajendra Hegde, Mixing Engineer: Anchal Shrivastav and Executive Producers- Feroz Khan and Sandeep Shandaliya.
