Imtiaz Ali: Saif is a difficult guy to pin down

LOVE AAJ KAL is just days away from release and what is almost sure by now is the fact that this Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer is all set to take the best start of year 2009. However, even though the film is creating great curiosity amongst movie goers across different age groups, it wasn't exactly an easy beginning for writer-director Imtiaz Ali. He had to get a good enough case in place and convince Saif Ali Khan about the film's concept and treatment before the actor decided to produce and act in the film.

"With Saif, one thing that comes as a part of the package is commitment. Saif is a difficult guy to pin down for a film. But then once he is on, he is on. This is why he takes time before giving his go ahead on any project. This is what happened in case of LOVE AAJ KAL as well where he wanted to be doubly sure before consenting to be a part of the project", remembers Imtiaz who began work on LOVE AAJ KAL after the super success of JAB WE MET.
There were quite a few ideas in his mind but when it came to two love stories across different generations forming the germ of the film to be made, he had Saif Ali Khan truly on board.
"Something struck home for him and once he was on board, he was sure that he just wanted to do this thing at that point in time", says Imtiaz, "So much so that while working on LOVE AAJ KAL he had his complete concentration only for this film. Before making any other professional commitments, he made sure that LOVE AAJ KAL gets all the quality time of his."
