Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 has shown its first clear signs of slowing down at the box office after enjoying a strong run since its release. The sequel to the 2007 film Awarapan collected less than Rs. 1 crore on Day 13, which came after Yash starrer Toxic arrived in theatres on August 26.
According to Sacnilk, Awarapan 2 earned a net ₹0.90 crore in India on Wednesday across 1,124 shows. With this latest collection, the film’s total India net earnings have reached Rs. 143.65 crore.
The India gross collection currently stands at Rs. 171.20 crore. The film has also continued to earn money from overseas markets. It collected Rs. 0.25 crore overseas on Day 13, taking its overseas gross total to Rs. 31.55 crore.
As a result, Awarapan 2 has now reached a worldwide gross collection of Rs. 202.75 crore.
The film had emerged as the clear winner of the Independence Day box office race. Awarapan 2 opened strongly and collected ₹40.50 crore during its opening weekend. It also moved well ahead of several other releases during the period, including Tamil Vishwanath & Sons, which earned ₹26 crore, Batwara 1947 with ₹16.20 crore, Spider Man: Brand New Day with ₹12 crore and the DC movie with ₹6.30 crore.
Awarapan 2 also quickly surpassed the lifetime collection of the original Awarapan. The 2007 film had earned ₹7.75 crore net in its entire theatrical run. The sequel also went past the final collections of several successful Emraan Hashmi films, including Haq at ₹20 crore, Raaz 2 at ₹25.50 crore, Ek Thi Daayan at ₹26 crore and Jannat at ₹30 crore.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt under Vishesh Films, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.
The film has benefited from strong audience interest in Emraan Hashmi, with the sequel bringing back the character and musical appeal associated with the original. It also faced competition from Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Batwara 1947 but remained significantly ahead in box office earnings.
With Rs. 143.65 crore net in India and Rs. 202.75 crore worldwide, Awarapan 2 continues to maintain a strong overall run despite the Day 13 slowdown.
