Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, which followed the 2018 blockbuster Raid, kicked off its second weekend on a robust note but has now hit a major roadblock. The crime thriller directed by Raj Kumar Gupta witnessed collections take a big tumble on its ninth day following the rising national security issues all over the country. With multiple cities under blackout and theatres closing down, the box office momentum of the film has slowed down for the moment.

Strong First Week Performance

In spite of the prevailing difficulties, Raid 2 has gone on a great run so far. The movie, also featuring Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, and Saurabh Shukla, opened to good reviews and healthy audience numbers. The movie raked in a whopping ₹94.75 crore in its extended first week, beating competitor releases like Kesari 2 and The Bhootnii. The eighth day alone fetched ₹5 crore, testifying to the movie’s strong hold even in the second week.

Day 9 Trends Indicate 25–30% Decline

Early morning trends on Day 9 indicate that Raid 2 will see a steep decline of 25–30% from the previous day’s collections. The national attention on unfolding security problems has had a major bearing on footfalls in cinemas. Attention of the audience has diverted, and going to the cinema has taken a backseat in many of the affected regions.

Theatres Closed Down, Releases Deferred

With a complete blackout in certain cities and the theatres shut, the entertainment industry is witnessing disturbances. Consequently, the highly anticipated release of Bhool Chuk Maaf, which was set to release in theatres today, has been delayed. The producers chose to bypass the theatrical release at the eleventh hour, further making way for Raid 2—albeit in less-than-favourable circumstances.

100 Crore Mark Within Reach

In spite of the collections drop, Raid 2 should be crossing the ₹100 crore mark anytime now, subject to how things shape up in the next few days. All the key runs in urban multiplexes and Tier 1 locations have been helping it drive momentum. Should normalcy set back in over the weekend, the film might be able to regain its box office rhythm.

As it is, Raid 2 is one of the better performers of the year and continues to demonstrate Ajay Devgn’s sustained popularity in gritty, content-based films.
