Sanjay Dutt’s much-hyped return to the silver screen with The Bhootnii has unfortunately failed to make a mark at the box office. Released on May 1, 2025, alongside the Ajay Devgn-starrer Raid 2, the horror comedy has not managed to attract significant footfall in its opening weekend or early weekdays.

Dull Weekend and Weak Monday

Despite being a festive release, The Bhootnii collected just Rs 1.95 crore during its extended weekend, signaling a weak start. As per early morning trends on Day 5 (Monday), the film has shown a further drop in collections, indicating poor audience retention. The lack of buzz and tepid word-of-mouth have added to the film’s woes, leading to minimal momentum in theaters.

Strong Competition Adds to the Struggle

The Bhootnii has been significantly impacted by the strong performance of Raid 2, which continues to dominate the box office. The Ajay Devgn-starrer’s mass appeal and franchise power have left little room for the Sanjay Dutt-starrer to thrive. Additionally, the holdover release Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh has further split the audience’s attention, compounding the film’s challenges.

Sanjay Dutt’s Theatrical Comeback Falls Flat

The film was positioned as Sanjay Dutt’s big-screen comeback after three years, his last appearance being in Shamshera (2022). However, the actor has been facing a prolonged dry spell since his last major success, PK (2014), in which he played a supporting role. Despite the presence of co-stars Mouni Roy, Sunny Singh, and Palak Tiwari, The Bhootnii failed to connect with audiences or critics alike.

Likely to Wrap Up Soon

Produced by Soham Rockstar Entertainment and directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, the horror comedy seems unlikely to sustain beyond its first week. With the upcoming release of Bhool Chuk Maaf starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi on May 9, 2025, The Bhootnii is expected to see a sharp decline in its already limited screen space.

All signs point to The Bhootnii ending its theatrical journey quietly, joining the list of underperformers in 2025. Despite the nostalgic appeal of Sanjay Dutt, the film lacked the script strength and execution to engage today’s audiences.
