The action thriller Ground Zero, which stars Emraan Hashmi, continues to disappoint at the box office as it is on its sixth day of theatrical release. In spite of the stardom of Emraan Hashmi and the support of some strong producers such as Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, the film has failed to produce the desired momentum among cinemagoers. As per Day 6’s morning trends, Ground Zero will most likely fall by around 10% from the day before yesterday’s collections, which stood at Rs 60 lakh. This shows that the decline is slow, and the film is losing steam at the box office.
Modest Earnings So Far
As of now, Ground Zero has collected Rs 6.1 crore from the box office, which is fairly low for a film that has a starry cast and is an action-thriller genre. Weak pre-sales and minimal buzz during the run-up to its release are being touted as major reasons for its below-par performance. Although there have been some promotional deals, like the Blockbuster Tuesday movie deal, the film could not utilize these to maximize its revenue. This failure by the audience to be interested is a disappointment for both the producers and Emraan Hashmi, particularly considering that the actor had been off the big screen for two years.
Strong Competition from Other Releases
The box office performance of the movie has also been affected by strong competition from other movies playing in theaters at the moment. Ground Zero is competing space with the theatrical re-release of the comedy classic Andaz Apna Apna (1994), which has garnered a strong fan following. The continuous releases Jaat and Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh have also been attracting more viewership. These rival films, each with something unique to provide the audience for the movies, have made it even more difficult for Ground Zero to shine.
Effect of Poor Buzz and Promotion
One of the primary reasons for the movie’s failure at the box office is that it was unable to generate good buzz prior to release. With the action genre oversaturated and a lack of adequate marketing support behind Ground Zero, cinemagoers have chosen other options. Even with its fast-paced action sequences and inclusion of good actors such as Sai Tamhankar and Zoya Hussain, Ground Zero has not been able to engage viewers on a meaningful level. The movie’s mediocre box office performance is a reminder of how much depends on the proper promotion and engagement of the audience for a movie’s success in today’s market.
Emraan Hashmi’s Theatrical Comeback
This movie also features Emraan Hashmi returning to the cinema after a two-year hiatus. His recent on-stage appearance was in the 2023 Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starring Tiger 3, where he portrayed the villain. Nonetheless, his return to the action space in Ground Zero has not yielded the box office returns he had hoped for, indicating that viewers might not be completely on board with his return project. With the film continuing to perform poorly, the coming days will be important for Ground Zero to bounce back and pick up where it left off. But things still look dicey at the moment.
