Hanuman Ansh, the film based on the life and spiritual journey of Neem Karoli Baba, has emerged as one of the surprise box office successes of 2026. The film did not have a strong start and faced difficulties during its first two weeks in theatres. However, its performance improved over time and it has continued to attract audiences even after completing nearly a month of its theatrical run.
Made on a reported budget of about ₹2 crore, Hanuman Ansh has earned around 50 times its investment by Day 29. The film has collected approximately ₹97.99 crore gross in India so far. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie continues to occupy 47% of theatres, with 5,055 shows across India.
The film has also recorded strong numbers during its fifth week. On its fifth Saturday, Hanuman Ansh reportedly earned ₹10 crore. This was significantly higher than the fifth Saturday collection of some major big budget films. For comparison, Dhurandhar: The Revenge earned ₹2.7 crore on its fifth Saturday.
The film’s long run has also helped it remain relevant despite competition from other releases. With Mirzapur releasing on September 4 and Toxic continuing its theatrical run, Hanuman Ansh has managed to maintain a strong presence in cinemas.
The makers have now announced another major development. On Thursday, they shared a poster revealing that Hanuman Ansh will receive a global theatrical release on September 11, 2026. The wider release could give the film another opportunity to add to its box office total.
The story is inspired by Neem Karoli Baba, a spiritual teacher and devotee of Lord Hanuman. His birth name is generally given as Lakshman Narayan Sharma. He was born around 1900 in Akbarpur village in present day Uttar Pradesh and died on September 11, 1973, in Vrindavan.
Several stories about Neem Karoli Baba involve miracles and extraordinary experiences described by his devotees. These accounts largely come from personal recollections and spiritual traditions rather than independently verified historical records.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Vishal has reportedly confirmed Hanuman Ansh 2. According to Hindustan Times, the sequel will explore Maharaj Ji’s birthplace, Firozabad, and his subsequent journey to places including Agra and Mathura. Further details about the sequel are awaited.
