Hanuman Ansh, the film based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office and has emerged as one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2026. Made on a reported budget of about Rs 2 crore, the film has earned more than 50 times its investment. Its performance is particularly notable because the movie had a slow start when it first arrived in theatres last month.
According to Sacnilk, Hanuman Ansh earned Rs 22.75 crore net on its 31st day in theatres. This took its total India gross collection to Rs 144.40 crore, while its total India net collection reached Rs 122.13 crore. The film gained momentum after its first two weeks as positive word of mouth and social media discussions helped bring more audiences to theatres.
Hanuman Ansh has now become the smallest Hindi film by scale to cross the Rs 100 crore mark. The record was previously held by The Kashmir Files. The film has also continued to attract attention despite competition from titles such as Toxic and Mirzapur. Its upcoming global release on September 11 could give the film another opportunity to increase its overall box office earnings.
The success of Hanuman Ansh has also led to the announcement of a sequel. According to reports, director Vishal Chaturvedi confirmed Hanuman Ansh 2 while speaking to audiences at a multiplex in Agra. The sequel is expected to explore more about Neem Karoli Baba’s early life and spiritual journey. The story will reportedly focus on his birthplace, Firozabad, before showing how and why he travelled to Agra, Mathura and other places.
Neem Karoli Baba was a Hindu spiritual teacher and a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman. His birth name is generally given as Lakshman Narayan Sharma. He was born around 1900 in Akbarpur village in present day Uttar Pradesh and died on September 11, 1973, in Vrindavan.
Many stories about Neem Karoli Baba involve miracles and unusual incidents shared by his devotees. Since many of these accounts come from personal recollections and spiritual traditions, they are best understood in that context rather than as independently verified historical facts.
