Against All Odds! John Abraham’s The Diplomat defies IPL fever, shows positive signs at Box Office on Day 9

The Diplomat, featuring John Abraham in the title role, released on March 14, 2025, and has been steadily growing despite the competition from the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Shivam Nair-directed political thriller based on the life of Indian diplomat JP Singh (played by John Abraham), who is stationed in Pakistan, has picked up with the audience during its second weekend, exhibiting good signs at the box office.

Positive Momentum In Spite of IPL Clash

The movie opened moderately but picked up immense momentum on its eighth day with a strong hold as it stepped into the second weekend. In spite of the impending shadow of IPL, which tends to drive people out of theaters, The Diplomat sustained itself. It should make Rs 2 crore on its second Saturday, taking its overall collections to Rs 20.2 crore during the first nine days of release. This consistent progress indicates a good acceptability by the audience, supported by good word-of-mouth.

Market Competition

Currently, The Diplomat competes with other big Hindi releases, Chhaava and Tumko Meri Kasam. While Chhaava, which has Vicky Kaushal, has been a success at the box office for more than a month now and is finally coming to an end, Tumko Meri Kasam, which came out just yesterday, is not even reaching that level. The Diplomat has also managed to fare better than Tumko Meri Kasam, thanks to its engaging storyline and John Abraham’s forceful performance, winning the masses’ appreciation. The film has worked well with moviegoers, especially political thriller and character-driven story fans.

The Road Ahead

As The Diplomat remains competitive with the tough competition, it will be no surprise to see the movie pick up more with the rest of the weekend. The well-received movie and interesting storyline provide a strong foundation for it to keep people coming back. Directed by T-Series and JA Entertainment, it is a strong comeback for John Abraham following the failure of his last release, Vedaa. If the movie continues to go strong, it will be able to keep doing well despite competing with big-ticket releases such as Sikandar towards the end of this month.
