A.R. Murugadoss’s highly anticipated film Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, was released in theatres on March 30, 2025, during the festive season of Eid. Despite the buzz surrounding its release, the film’s box office performance has been somewhat underwhelming. In its first week, Sikandar earned Rs 97.03 crore net in India, with the film grossing Rs 3.28 crore on its seventh day. While the film made Rs 90.25 crore during its first five days, its performance dropped in the following days, as Friday collections fell by 41.67%, earning only Rs 3.5 crore.

The film opened with a lukewarm response, grossing Rs 26 crore on its first day. Despite high expectations for a strong weekend performance due to its release during Eid, the numbers didn’t match those of Salman Khan’s previous blockbusters. Nonetheless, Sikandar still has a chance to recover as the film continues its run in theatres.

Story and Star-Studded Cast
Sikandar is an action-packed thriller that follows Salman Khan’s character, Sikandar, as he embarks on a mission for justice. The film’s plot revolves around Sikandar’s relentless quest to protect three individuals who received organ donations from his late wife. Apart from Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, the film features a star-studded cast, including Kajal Aggarwal, Suniel Shetty, Sathyaraj, Prateik Babbar, and Sharman Joshi, all adding significant weight to the movie.

Global Performance and Comparison with Other Salman Khan Films
While the film has earned an estimated Rs 178.16 crore worldwide in its first six days, it is still falling short compared to Salman Khan’s recent hits. For instance, his previous film Tiger 3 had raked in a massive Rs 219.4 crore net in India by its seventh day, setting a high benchmark for Sikandar. The film’s performance has been somewhat disappointing given Salman Khan’s massive star power, and it has yet to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India.

However, Sikandar is doing better than Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which earned Rs 90.15 crore in its first week, providing a silver lining for the filmmakers. The real test for Sikandar will be how it performs in the coming weeks, with industry insiders keen to see how it fares in the long run.

Salman Khan’s Appeal for Support
Ahead of the film’s release, Salman Khan urged moviegoers to support not just Sikandar but also other big releases during the festive period, including Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan and Sunny Deol’s Jaat. In an interview, he expressed hope that the films would perform well, stating, “I am hoping people get good bonuses on Eid so they can watch Sikandar, Mohanlal sir’s L2: Empuraan, and also Sunny Deol’s new film (Jaat). Three big stars are coming with big films, and I hope all work.”
