After a solid start, John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb’s The Diplomat is now facing a steep decline in its box office performance. What once seemed like a promising political thriller is now struggling to maintain its momentum, especially with the film’s earnings dipping significantly on Day 11.

Box Office Performance Takes a Hit

On Day 11, The Diplomat grossed less than a crore, specifically earning Rs 0.90 crore, which marked a significant downturn in its earnings. The total net collection of the film now stands at Rs 26.55 crore. This is a noticeable dip from its earlier earnings, where the film had shown potential. With an overall Hindi occupancy of just 7.76 percent in theaters, it’s clear that audiences are losing interest in the film, despite its initial hype.

The film’s performance has been quite low in all show timings. Morning shows managed only a 4.81 percent occupancy, while afternoon and evening shows saw marginally better turnouts of 7.86 percent and 8.31 percent, respectively. Even the night shows, which generally attract more viewers, only saw a 10.07 percent occupancy. These numbers point to a tough road ahead for the film’s chances at maintaining a stronghold in theaters.

Production Costs Covered, But More is Needed

Made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, The Diplomat has recouped its production costs, but the road to profitability is still long. With its current performance, it is uncertain if the film will achieve substantial profits in the coming weeks. The film will need a significant push, perhaps through strong word-of-mouth or promotional efforts, to stand a chance at turning things around.

Plot and Storyline

The Diplomat is inspired by true events, revolving around the mission of an Indian diplomat, played by John Abraham, tasked with rescuing a woman who has allegedly been honey-trapped by a Pakistani man. The movie depicts the tense negotiations, legal complexities, and political pressure surrounding the mission. Uzma Ahmed, the woman at the center of the story, claims she was abducted and forced into marriage in Pakistan, setting the stage for a high-stakes diplomatic showdown.

Critical Reception

The film received mixed reviews, with some praising its engaging moments and strong narrative structure, while others felt it lacked the punch to make a lasting impact. According to News18, while the film kept viewers on the edge of their seats with a gripping background score, it failed to deliver a knockout despite its promising premise.

As The Diplomat continues to face challenges at the box office, it remains to be seen whether it can pick up steam in the coming days or if it will slowly fade from the scene.
