War 2, the much-anticipated spy thriller starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, roared into cinemas on August 14, setting the stage for a massive box office showdown with Rajinikanth’s Coolie. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films, War 2 marks the latest chapter in the YRF Spy Universe and the first on-screen collaboration between two of India’s biggest stars—Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film opened to an impressive collection, demonstrating the sheer pull of its star-studded cast and franchise appeal.
Strong Opening Numbers Despite Competition
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, War 2 earned approximately ₹52.50 crore across all languages on Day 1. The Hindi version led with ₹29 crore, followed closely by the Telugu version with ₹23.25 crore. A minor contribution of ₹0.25 crore came from other languages.
While War 2’s opening is significant, Rajinikanth’s Coolie edged ahead slightly, collecting around ₹65 crore on its first day. With the Independence Day weekend extending into multiple holidays, both films are expected to witness sustained audience turnout and possibly cross the ₹100 crore mark in the coming days.
Jr NTR Reflects on Collaborating with Hrithik
Speaking about sharing screen space with Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR said, “When I watched Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, I went mad. He is one of the greatest dancers in the country. My journey started off by admiring him. After all these years, I got the chance to act and dance with him.”
