Captain America: Brave New World is quietly moving along at the box office, with the movie set to pass a number of important milestones in both domestic and foreign markets, even if it did start out a little slower. To date, it’s close to surpassing Black Adam’s domestic total, a major feat for the new Marvel release.
Beating Black Adam and Other Milestones
Captain America: Brave New World earned $933K in its third Thursday, down 38.4% from the last week. Though these are lower figures than other Marvel movies, the film is ready to surpass Black Adam’s domestic total of $168.2 million, a significant achievement given the DC movie’s sky-high budget and failure. Captain America 4 will surpass Black Adam by tonight, further cementing its place in the box office battle.
The movie is also approaching Captain America: The First Avenger’s $176.7 million domestic total, which it should surpass this weekend. If it does, it will be the third highest-grossing film in the Captain America franchise, behind only The Winter Soldier and Civil War. Forecasts indicate that Brave New World will gross between $195 million and $215 million in the US, placing it ahead until Snow White comes out later this year.
International Success and Future Prospects
Internationally, Captain America: Brave New World has already collected $178.4 million and, with that, its global gross stands at $346.48 million. It has been performing well ever since its release on February 14, despite having a slow tempo, and is likely to see its run going on at the box office while keeping itself steady until the bigger releases.
