Spider Man: Brand New Day continues its strong run at the Indian box office, although the Tom Holland starrer saw a noticeable drop during its 5th weekend. The film collected Rs. 4.50 crore gross, which is Rs. 3.75 crore nett, over the weekend. This represents a 60 per cent drop compared with the previous week.
The film faced a change in its screen count after losing IMAX shows following the release of Toxic. This affected its collections during the week, particularly on Wednesday. However, the movie managed to get some shows back over the weekend, helping its box office numbers rise again.
After the latest collections, Spider Man: Brand New Day has reached a running gross total of Rs. 577 crore at the Indian box office. Its nett collection currently stands at Rs. 476.75 crore.
The film has now entered the final stage of its theatrical run. Based on its current performance, Spider Man: Brand New Day is expected to finish its India nett collection somewhere between Rs. 585 crore and Rs. 590 crore. The final number will depend on how well the film performs during the remaining days.
When the collections from the 3D version are included, the film could reach around Rs. 650 crore in gross collections in India by the end of its theatrical run.
The Tom Holland starrer has already achieved the status of an All Time Blockbuster in India. It has also entered an exclusive club by becoming only the third Hollywood film to record more than 2 crore footfalls in the country. The other two films to achieve this feat are Titanic and Avengers: Endgame.
With Spider Man: Brand New Day nearing the end of its theatrical journey, attention is now turning towards the next major Marvel release, Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming film will have the challenging task of competing with the records created by previous Marvel and Hollywood blockbusters.
It remains to be seen whether Avengers: Doomsday can come close to the historic audience numbers achieved by Titanic or challenge Spider Man: Brand New Day’s impressive theatrical performance in India.
