1ST WEEKEND BOX OFFICE WINNER! HIT 3 vs Retro: Nani’s Film Outshines Suriya’s Retro – Day 4 Numbers

Nani’s latest release, HIT: The Third Case, has emerged as the stronger performer at the South Indian box office, defeating Suriya’s much-anticipated Retro in a head-to-head clash. Despite both films receiving mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike, it is Nani’s gritty cop thriller that has taken a clear lead in its opening weekend.

HIT 3 Maintains Lead Despite Drop

Directed by Sailesh Kolanu, HIT 3 opened to an impressive Rs 21 crore on Thursday, setting high expectations for the weekend. However, it witnessed a gradual decline over the next three days collecting Rs 10.5 crore on Friday, Rs 10.4 crore on Saturday, and a comparatively lower Rs 9.50 crore on Sunday. The total weekend collection stands at Rs 51.40 crore nett, making it one of the strongest openings in Nani’s career.

While the Sunday dip raises concerns for its long-term run, the film’s overall weekend tally gives it a clear advantage in the box office race. The audience seems to have connected with the investigative narrative and Nani’s intense portrayal of a law enforcement officer.

Retro Shows Steady Weekend Run

Suriya’s Retro, a film with a nostalgic twist and a massy appeal, began with Rs 19.25 crore on Thursday but saw a steep drop on Friday with Rs 7.75 crore. Interestingly, the film managed to maintain a flat but steady performance over the weekend, collecting Rs 8 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. Its total four-day weekend collection stands at Rs 43 crore nett.

While it trails HIT 3, the consistent weekend numbers indicate that Retro may have stronger word-of-mouth potential going into the weekdays, especially among Suriya’s fanbase.

Box Office Outlook

Despite the initial lead, HIT 3’s downward trend during the weekend suggests it may face challenges in maintaining its pace. The Monday collections will be crucial in determining whether the film can inch towards the Rs 100 crore milestone. On the other hand, Retro is still aiming to cross the Rs 50 crore mark, with hopes pinned on sustained mid-week turnout.
