Ajith Kumar’s much-hyped film Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, has had a strong opening weekend despite mixed critical reviews. Released in theatres on April 10, 2025, the action-packed drama co-starring Trisha Krishnan has now crossed ₹84.50 crore net at the Indian box office within four days of its release.
Impressive Weekend Despite Mixed Reception
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Good Bad Ugly opened with a strong ₹29.25 crore on Day 1. Although it saw a sharp dip of 48.72% on Friday, earning ₹15 crore, the weekend brought in renewed momentum. The film witnessed a 31.67% jump on Saturday with ₹19.75 crore, and Sunday collections held up well at ₹20.50 crore. This took the total India net to ₹84.50 crore by the end of its opening weekend.
Globally, the film has already surpassed the ₹100 crore milestone, collecting an estimated ₹114.50 crore worldwide as of Saturday, making it a solid commercial performer.
One of the Highest-Grossing Tamil Films of the Year
Good Bad Ugly is currently the third-highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025, climbing ahead of Madha Gadha Raja and Veera Dheera Sooran. It now trails behind Ajith’s own Vidaamuyarchi and Pradeep Ranganathan’s box office leader Dragon. With Suriya’s highly-anticipated Retro hitting theatres in May, the rankings may shift again, but for now, Ajith’s gangster flick is enjoying its time in the spotlight.
A Film for the Fans, Despite Narrative Flaws
The film sees Ajith Kumar playing a retired gangster named AK, also known as Red Dragon, who is pulled back into the underworld when his son’s life is endangered. While the plot may not be groundbreaking, the film is designed to showcase Ajith’s star power.
The review also notes that while the movie heavily leans on Ajith’s charisma, its storyline is “wafer-thin” and stretched across an “uneven narrative.” With steady word of mouth and strong mass appeal, Good Bad Uglylooks poised to extend its box office run well into the second week.
