Irumudi has shown a strong hold at the Telugu box office on its first Monday. The film earned around Rs. 15 crore in India on its fourth day, recording a drop of only 12 per cent compared with its holiday boosted opening day. In practical terms, the Monday performance is even stronger because the opening day had the benefit of a holiday.
The film performed particularly well in the Telugu states. Collections there declined by only 8 per cent, while the Nizam region managed to match its opening day numbers. This has helped the film maintain strong momentum during its first week.
After four days, Irumudi has collected around Rs. 72 crore in India. The Telugu states account for approximately Rs. 63 crore of the total. The Monday collection in the Telugu states is among the biggest Monday figures recorded in the region.
The film’s Monday numbers are reportedly only around 20 per cent behind major blockbusters such as Pushpa 2 and Kalki 2898 AD. However, the comparison becomes more notable when ticket prices are taken into account. Irumudi has been running with much lower ticket prices, which means the number of people watching the film is estimated to be higher than the collections alone suggest.
In terms of footfalls, the film is said to be performing closer to RRR, which collected Rs. 26 crore on its first Monday. This indicates that the film is attracting a significant audience despite the lower ticket rates.
The strong Monday hold is a positive sign for the film’s performance over the coming weeks. However, Irumudi will face competition from Toxic when it releases this Wednesday. The impact of the new release could lead to some loss of screens and business for Irumudi.
If the film continues to receive strong audience support, it could regain some screens later and recover part of the business affected by the competition. Based on its current performance, the film is tracking towards a Rs. 150 crore plus finish in the Telugu states. If the current momentum continues for a longer period, the Rs. 200 crore mark could also become a possibility.
