Irumudi has continued its strong run at the Telugu box office with an impressive performance on its second Monday. The film earned around Rs. 8 crore across India on Monday, with approximately Rs. 7.50 crore coming from the Telugu states. The collection is especially notable because its second Monday business was almost similar to what the film earned on Thursday last week, showing that audience interest has remained strong even after the second weekend.
The second Monday collection is now the 5th highest of all time in the Telugu states. The films ahead of Irumudi on this list are Salaar with Rs. 11 crore, Baahubali 2 with Rs. 10.50 crore, RRR with Rs. 9.75 crore and AVPL with Rs. 9 crore. After eleven days, Irumudi has reached approximately Rs. 158 crore worldwide in its reported running total, with the Telugu states contributing around Rs. 142 crore. The AP and Telangana market is expected to cross the Rs. 150 crore mark tomorrow.
The film is also expected to benefit from the upcoming Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi holiday period. With no major competition in the immediate period, Irumudi could continue to maintain its strong collections. The weak response to Toxic has also helped the film get more screens in some locations. Several centres where Irumudi was removed on Wednesday because of the release of Toxic reportedly brought the film back on Monday after seeing continued audience demand.
The film is performing well in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with each state showing the potential to cross Rs. 100 crore in gross collections. Another interesting factor is that these numbers have come without major ticket price increases. The relatively lower ticket prices appear to have helped the film attract audiences even in smaller centres.
In the Nizam region, Irumudi is also performing strongly outside Hyderabad. This is significant because Hyderabad has increasingly contributed a large share of Nizam collections in recent years. Irumudi’s strong performance in the districts could even help it challenge RRR’s footfalls in those areas.
