Telugu film Irumudi has made a strong start at the Indian box office, recording an excellent opening weekend. The Ravi Teja starrer collected around Rs. 56.75 crore in India over its first three days. The film also performed well overseas, earning around USD 1.45 million, which is approximately Rs. 13.75 crore. This took its worldwide opening weekend collection to Rs. 70.50 crore.
The film collected Rs. 17.00 crore on Friday before showing growth on Saturday. It earned Rs. 17.75 crore on the second day and then recorded a major jump on Sunday with Rs. 22.00 crore. The three day total in India stands at Rs. 56.75 crore.
The weekend trend is particularly encouraging for the film. Telugu films often see a drop after the first day, making growth on the second day relatively uncommon. Irumudi managed to increase its collections on Saturday even though Friday was a holiday. The film then recorded another strong jump on Sunday, with the Telugu states showing growth of almost 25 per cent.
The Telugu states contributed close to Rs. 50 crore during the opening weekend. Based on the strong weekend trend, the film is expected to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark in the twin Telugu states. If the momentum continues, it could also target a lifetime collection of around Rs. 150 crore.
The opening weekend has also given Ravi Teja one of the biggest box office starts of his career. After a run of films that did not perform as strongly at the box office, Irumudi has given the actor a major comeback in terms of theatrical numbers.
In India, the film collected Rs. 49.00 crore from AP/TS, including Rs. 23.50 crore from Nizam, Rs. 7.25 crore from Ceded and Rs. 18.25 crore from Andhra. Karnataka contributed Rs. 5.25 crore, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala together added Rs. 1.00 crore. The rest of India contributed Rs. 1.50 crore.
Overseas, Irumudi earned USD 1,050,000 in North America and USD 400,000 from the rest of the world, taking the total overseas collection to USD 1,450,000.
