Directed by Vijay Karthikeyaa and starring Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep, Max has turned out to be one of the biggest hits of Kannada cinema in 2024. The action-packed thriller, also featuring Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Samyukta Hornad, Sukrutha Wagle, and Anirudh Bhat, released on December 25, coinciding with Christmas Day.
With minimal pre-release buzz, the trailer of the film did the trick for the audience, which catapulted it to record the biggest opening of Kannada cinema this year.
With a great cast and thrilling action scenes, Max had a strong box office on the second day, too, continuing its success throughout the five-day extended opening weekend. It has particularly received excellent reception in Karnataka, where it gained pace within no time.
The makers are now planning to release the movie in other languages, starting with its release in Kerala on January 1. It will face stiff competition from Marco, a Mollywood blockbuster, but the mass action genre of Max is expected to attract one and all.
In Sandalwood, Max is a direct clash with UI, starring Upendra. However, both films are doing well in their respective domains. Max is expected to emerge as the highest-grossing Sandalwood film of the year.
This is a strong comeback for Kiccha Sudeep after Vikrant Rona in 2022, which was his first major release after doing a cameo in the disappointing Kabzaa. He has proved himself to be a box office power once again with Max.
