Mohanlal is indeed having a blockbuster 2025! His latest offering, Thudarum, hit the theatres and raked in a whopping Rs 5.5 crore on Day 1, establishing itself as the second-largest Malayalam opener of the year. It is pertinent to note that the No. 1 position remains with Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan, which amassed a whopping Rs 18.6 crore on Day 1.

Starring the iconic Shobana alongside it, Thudarum saw fans scrambling to theatres in spite of experiencing multiple release delays. It topped other big Vishu releases such as Mammootty’s Bazooka (Rs 3.2 crore), Alappuzha Gymkhana (Rs 2.65 crore), and Rekhachithram (Rs 1.9 crore). The occupancy rate of the film was a whopping 62.27 per cent, with evening shows touching 68.25 per cent and night shows hitting 84 per cent. In main cities such as Kochi, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kollam, Kottayam, and Alappuzha, nighttime occupancy reached a record 95–99 per cent.

Reunion of Mohanlal and Shobana After Two Decades
Thudarum reunites Mohanlal and Shobana on screen after Mambazhakaalam (2004). The plot revolves around a family man whose life is turned upside down when his favorite car becomes involved in a legal battle. Apart from the lead pair, the film has memorable performances by Prakash Varma, Binu Pappu, Farhaan Faasil, Thomas Mathew, and Bharathiraja. Directed by Tharun Moorthy and produced by M Renjith, Thudarum is Tharun’s third directorial effort after Operation Java and Saudi Vellakka.
