Vishwanath And Sons has continued its steady run at the Indian box office, recording a decent second weekend. The Suriya and Mamitha Baiju starrer collected around Rs. 22.25 crore during its second weekend, taking its total India gross collection to Rs. 115.25 crore. The film had collected Rs. 93 crore in its first week. It then earned around Rs. 5 crore on its second Friday. The collections increased over the weekend, with the movie collecting Rs. 8.40 crore on Saturday and Rs. 8.85 crore on Sunday. This took the second weekend total to Rs. 22.25 crore.
Directed by Venky Atluri, Vishwanath And Sons is expected to see some slowdown with the arrival of Toxic next weekend. However, the following weekend will coincide with festivals, which could help the film maintain a stronger hold at the box office despite the competition.
The movie has performed particularly well in the Telugu speaking markets. This is notable because Vishwanath And Sons is an original Tamil film. So far, the movie has collected Rs. 49 crore in APTS, while Tamil Nadu has contributed Rs. 43.75 crore to its total. If the film continues at a similar pace in the Telugu markets, it could cross Rs. 60 crore there and emerge as a HIT venture.
The film has also recorded Rs. 14.00 crore in Karnataka, Rs. 7.00 crore in Kerala and Rs. 1.50 crore from the rest of India. With these collections combined, the film has reached Rs. 115.25 crore gross in India.
While the overall performance of Vishwanath And Sons can be considered decent because of its strong run in APTS, the picture is different in Tamil Nadu. The film’s performance in its home market has reportedly not been strong enough for distributors, who are expected to face losses.
For now, the Telugu states remain the biggest strength for the Suriya starrer. The upcoming competition from Toxic will test its hold, while the festival period could give the film another opportunity to maintain its theatrical run.
