A Bollywood actress initially planned to act in just one film but ended up debuting with a cult classic, earning widespread acclaim. She went on to star alongside superstars and even appeared in an American movie. Can you guess her identity?
Huma Qureshi, a now well-known face in Indian films, had first come to Mumbai with the aim of doing only one film. But fate had other plans. Huma was born into a middle-class family and did her bachelor’s degree in History Honours before getting involved in theatre. She moved to Mumbai to audition for a film that never took off. At this time, she made a few television commercials, one of which was noticed by director Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap saw her potential and signed her for three films.
Breakthrough with a Cult Classic
Huma’s breakthrough came with Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur, where she played Mohsina. Her work was well-received, and the two-part crime epic became cult, making her a promising new face. She then featured in a series of hit films such as D-Day, Dedh Ishqiya, Badlapur with Varun Dhawan, and Jolly LLB 2 with Akshay Kumar. Venturing further into her versatility, Huma worked in Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Tamil, and even English-language films.

Huma also extended her horizons to international films with the American zombie heist movie Army of the Dead. She then got into writing and presented herself as a writer in her fantasy fiction novel Zeba: An Accidental Superhero. Not only was she happy with acting, but Huma co-produced Double XL under the banner of her own production company, Elemen3 Entertainment. She is the sister of the actor Saqib Saleem.
What’s Next for Huma Qureshi?
In professional terms, Huma is prepping up for Jolly LLB 3, releasing on September 19, 2025. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the movie also features Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. Also in waiting for fans are Maharani Season 4, in which Huma will reprise her much-criticized role.
