ZARINE KHAN

She is ready to make heads turn with her resemblance to Katrina Kaif. The model turned actress, who will be seen in the lead role opposite Salman Khan in the film VEER is all set for her big debut. Hot to the hilt, Zarine Khan has all the makings of a star. We caught up with this budding actress to talk about her films and more. Here are a few excerpts:

You are being talked about your looks that resemble closely with Katrina Kaif? How do you take such comparisons?
I am honored to be compared to Katrina Kaif. I’m a simple girl who’s trying to make her presence felt at the box-office and comparisons like this are nothing but compliments. But, to tell you the truth, when I look in the mirror I can’t see the Katrina in me.

Tell us about your first film VEER. How did you get this role?

“I can’t see the Katrina in me…”

Actually, I consider myself lucky to have got a role in the film VEER. As a model I was trying to find an opportunity to work in films when suddenly one day I got a call from Subhash Ghai who introduced me to Salman Khan. Unlike many upcoming actresses, I had a relatively easy run getting the film. I was told that I will be the leading lady of VEER which at that point of time sounded unbelievable. But, it actually happened in the end.

So, do you have any filmy background given the relative ease with which you were offered this film?
I have no filmy connections at all. I was modeling because I had to sustain my family. I consider it my destiny and good luck that such a big film was offered to me. Smiles.

How was it working with Salman Khan in the film?
Oh! It was a dream come true for me. I have always been a big fan of Salman Khan and once when I met him for the first time I asked for an autograph to which he smiled and said that I am the heroine of his next film. Even, while working on VEER, Salman Khan has been really a wonderful co-star. He has helped me without any hassle whenever I was in need of help. He’s not only my co-star but a mentor too.

Tell us about your role in the film VEER? What kind of preparations did you do for your role in the film?
My role is that of a princess in VEER. I had to do a lot of research for my act and even put on some weight to look the part. Before my modeling days I used to weight more than 100 kilos and I had to really work hard to look like a model. But, while playing my character in VEER I was told to gain a few more kilos. Initially, I was hesitant, but the director of the film Anil Sharma Ji wanted me to look the part. I was put on chocolate diet to gain weight to fit into my character.
