Bhushan Kumar: Happy to bring old-school romance back in vogue

The know alls and the pundits of cinema keep harping on the fact that the trend in Bollywood keeps changing (for the better or worse!) periodically. Sometimes it’s the action genre with a liberal dose of violence, at others, it’s the ‘masala’ with cheeky dialogues and one cannot ignore bold films with adult contents. But the subject that always hangs around (though it may seem a bit down at times) and the one that makes the most frequent comebacks is films with content, clean entertainment and aesthetic sense. And thankfully once again it is the preferred genre!

If we look at some of the recent successes, the one which have lasted for weeks, the names that come to mind are, NAUTANKI SAALA, CHASHME BADDOOR and the first super hit of 2013, AASHIQUI 2. The mentioned films have not only made a mark musically but have clicked in a big way with the family audience.

Agreed that action films with gory violence do embark on a big start in certain circuits that prefer such subjects but even there such films do not last beyond the weekend. The reason is obvious and that is one cannot watch such films with their parents, children or siblings and so a large chunk of the audience prefers to keep away. The reverse is true for above films, NAUTANKI SAALA, AASHIQUI 2 and CHASHME BADDOOR, and to top it, there is a repeat audience for such projects.

CHECK OUT: Impressive start for Bhushan Kumar & Vishesh Films’ AASHIQUI 2!

In fact the super success of Bhushan Kumar’s AASHIQUI 2 has caught the naysayers by surprise. The case of its director, the highly talented Mohit Suri is very interesting. It’s not that AASHIQUI 2 is his first success because he is already a name to reckon with through some bold films like ZEHER, KALYUG, RAAZ-THE MYSTERY CONTINUES, MURDER 2 etc. However, his biggest grosser by a huge margin (45 crore and still counting!) is the neat and clean musical romantic flick, AASHIQUI 2.

Speaking on the subject, NAUTANKI SAALA and AASHIQUI 2 producer Bhushan Kumar says, ”I’m happy to state that people are embracing the film and we are overwhelmed with the response the film has garnered… The idea was to bring old-school romance back into vogue and we are extremely happy that we have managed to do so in such a short span of time. There was an era of action cinema and bold films, but I am happy to see that this year clean content and high on entertainment films have worked. Mohit has done a really commendable job with AASHIQUI 2 after his bold films like MURDER 2, ZEHER etc.”
