Dia Mirza’s Brave Revelation! Actress Shares Near-Death Experience During Childbirth – You Won’t Believe What Happened

Bollywood actress and environmental activist Dia Mirza has revealed harrowing details of her pregnancy with son Avyaan Azaad Rekhi. At 39, Dia faced a life-threatening situation when she developed a severe bacterial infection, possibly stemming from an appendix surgery during her fifth month. By the sixth month, her placenta began haemorrhaging and her body went into sepsis. Doctors had to deliver the baby prematurely to save both mother and child.

A Difficult Start for Baby Avyaan
Born weighing just 810 grams, Avyaan was immediately taken to the ICU. Within 36 hours, he underwent life-saving surgery due to a hole in his intestine. A stoma was created his intestine was brought outside his body a terrifying experience for Dia, who was on IV antibiotics and allowed to visit her baby only twice a week.

Struggles at Home and Continued Recovery
Once Avyaan was strong enough to come home, Dia personally handled his medical care, including dressing his exposed stoma, as nurses were hesitant due to his condition. When he reached 3.5 kg, he underwent another critical surgery lasting 3–4 hours to correct the stoma. Dia finally held her son when he weighed 2.5 kg a long-awaited emotional moment.

Personal Journey and New Beginnings
Dia married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in a private ceremony in February 2021, after separating from her first husband Sahil Sangha in 2019. The couple met during the COVID-19 lockdown. Their wedding was conducted by a female priest, reflecting Dia’s values of empowerment and inclusivity. Avyaan was born in May 2021 and spent two months in the NICU before coming home. Dia describes the experience as humbling and filled with deep gratitude.
