The Kapoor family has lost its matriarch, Nirmal Kapoor, who died on May 2 in Mumbai at the age of 90. Widow of late film producer Surinder Kapoor, she was mother to celebrated personalities like filmmaker Boney Kapoor, actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor, and Reena Kapoor Marwah. Nirmal Kapoor’s death signifies the end of an era for the Kapoor clan, one of the most renowned families in Bollywood.
A Somber Farewell
In a poignant video now making the rounds on social media, Anil Kapoor was spotted emotionally escorting his mother’s mortal remains in an ambulance. He was accompanied by nephews Sanjay Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor. All three wore somber clothes, sitting quietly within the vehicle, their sorrow evident. The scene, caught by paparazzi through the window of the ambulance, is a testament to the personal loss the family is undergoing.
Final Rites Scheduled
Nirmal Kapoor’s funeral is also to be conducted at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai on May 3 at 11:30 am. Her body was taken to the family home, where there has been a constant flow of celebrities and well-wishers on Friday afternoon showing their respects.
Bollywood Pays Tribute
Some of the industry veterans like Rani Mukerji, Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, and director Rajkumar Santoshi went to the Kapoor home to pay their respects. A clip of Janhvi Kapoor being comforted by her beau Shikhar Pahariya also went viral, capturing the emotional gravity of the moment for the next generation of the family.

Nirmal Kapoor was well-loved not only by her family members but by the film community as well. Warm and elegant in her mannerisms, she used to make a regular appearance at family gatherings, premieres, and festivals. Anil Kapoor had gone on social media recently to publicize her 90th birthday celebration, with an emotional post and old photos reminiscing about the love and sacrifices of the dear mother figure.
