Social media influencer and former Bigg Boss contestant Vikas Jayaram Phatak, better known as Hindustani Bhau, has moved to the Bombay High Court for registration of an FIR against director-choreographer Farah Khan. In his petition, Phatak alleges that Farah Khan uttered insulting comments regarding the Hindu celebration of Holi during a February 2025 episode of Celebrity MasterChef. In Phatak’s view, Farah Khan called Holi the “Chhapri” festival, a word he says is used in derogatory fashion and mocks the religious and cultural value of the festival. He contends that these remarks are offensive to the Hindu community and might cause communal tension.

Complaint Lodged with Police

Phatak first approached the issue by filing a complaint at Khar Police Station on February 21, calling for action to be taken against Farah Khan. But though he tried his best, no FIR was filed. Over the next few days, Phatak raised the issue further by alerting top police officials, such as the Deputy Commissioner and the Additional Commissioner of Police, about the inaction. The authorities are said to have still not taken any additional action despite these attempts.

Court Intervention Sought

In the absence of any response from the police, Phatak went to the Bombay High Court with his plea for judicial intervention. In his petition, he urges the court to ask the police to file an FIR against Farah Khan on charges of what she said. The court is yet to give its ruling in this case and how it rules may decide what further action would be taken on this sensitive issue involving freedom of expression and safety of religious feelings.

The case has attracted attention, highlighting the delicate balance between public expression and the potential impact of statements on communal harmony.
