This week’s prominent release, Pritish Nandy Communications’ SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS started on an encouraging note despite rough weather in many parts of North, Central and Eastern India.

The film opened to a 30-40 percent response with some Delhi-NCR and East Punjab multiplexes (especially) showing higher occupancies of nearly 50 percent. As the day progressed the multiplexes showed a remarkable jump of 20-25 percent during the latter shows.

What is heartening to note is that unlike the previous two multiplex friendly films (HASEE TOH PHASEE and HIGHWAY) even the single screens are doing quite well, comparatively. Given the good to decent opening day, the Vidya-Farhan starrer is expected to accumulate a healthy weekend haul, which augers well for the moderately budgeted film.
Meanwhile, last week’s Imtiaz Ali directed Randeep-Alia starrer, HIGHWAY, could not quite impress during the opening week (despite Mahashivratri holiday on Thursday), netting a below par 21-22 crore. Given the involved release costs, HIGHWAY has to perform well at the ticket window during its second week to be considered a successful film.
