Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has expressed his thoughts on the ongoing discussions about a potential sequel to his 2007 hit Jab We Met, particularly after the reunion of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan at the 25th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Jaipur. The iconic duo, who portrayed the beloved characters Aditya and Geet in the film, sparked rumors of a Jab We Met reunion when they shared the stage at the event, leading fans and social media to speculate about the possibility of a sequel.

Ali, however, finds the ongoing talk about a Jab We Met sequel quite intriguing. In a recent interaction, he commented on the buzz, saying, “Actually, I find it very interesting that Shahid and Kareena met up in IIFA and people are talking to me about jab we met” The director went on to clarify that while Shahid had mentioned that he believes Ali has “moved on” from the film, Ali feels everyone has moved on since the film’s release. “It’s been a long time since Jab We Met,” he added, emphasizing that the film’s lasting popularity is a testament to its enduring charm.

Ali noted that while fans continue to demand a sequel, he does not believe in revisiting the film’s magic. “I think we should savour that, and we should not spoil it by coming up with a sequel at all,” he said. He further added that he is not currently planning a film with Shahid and Kareena but acknowledged that working with them had been an incredible experience.

New Project Jules Premieres at I View World Film Festival

On a different note, Ali is also gearing up for the release of his new film Jules. The film was showcased at the red carpet event of the I View World Film Festival, where Ali spoke about his directorial effort. Jules explores the unlikely friendship between a newlywed food blogger and a homeless woman in Melbourne, offering a narrative that celebrates diversity and inclusivity.

“It’s a very inclusive film where diverse voices, diverse kinds of people, genders, nationalities, and languages have come together,” Ali explained. The film is set to be released on March 14, coinciding with Holi, across India. Ali expressed excitement about the film’s release and the impact it might have, emphasizing its unique and heartfelt storytelling.

The I View World Film Festival, organized by Engendered, a trans-national arts and human rights organization, is being held at the Travancore Palace and will run until March 16. The festival’s opening night featured the screening of My Melbourne, an anthology by Ali and other renowned directors such as Onir, Rima Das, and Kabir Khan.
