Kareena Kapoor has opened up about a decision from her younger days that she now regrets. The actress revealed that she wishes she had completed her education before entering the film industry. Kareena made her Bollywood debut with Refugee in 2000 alongside Abhishek Bachchan. She was 19 during the shoot and turned 20 after the film was released. Soon after, she decided to focus completely on building her acting career.
Speaking to podcaster Hanuman Dass, Kareena said, “I never finished my education, and that was something that kind of stayed with me. Even though I had the opportunity, I got into movies and didn’t study any further after Class XI. I know a lot of people can make fun of that or say whatever they want, but I wanted to prove myself as an actor. That was something I wanted to do, to follow my heart.” She added, “Education is something I do regret not completing. That’s why I have pushed my boys to finish their education first and then follow their hearts. When UNICEF approached me about supporting young girls’ education in India, I felt deeply about it because I had always carried that regret that I hadn’t completed my own education,” she said.
Before entering Bollywood, Kareena studied at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and later attended Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun. She also reportedly studied commerce for a short period at Mumbai’s Mithibai College but did not complete her degree. She later attended a three month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School.
Kareena had previously revealed that she once considered becoming a lawyer before choosing acting. Her decision eventually led to a long career in Hindi cinema, where she went on to become one of the industry’s most recognised actresses.
On the work front, Kareena was last seen in Singham Again and Crew in 2024. She will next appear alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran in Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra. The film explores crime and the judicial system and draws from several cases across India.
Daayra marks Kareena and Prithviraj’s first on screen collaboration. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 18. Its recently released trailer has already generated interest around the film and its subject.
