Khatu Shyam Baba’s story to come alive on the big screen with new film set for 2027

Abundantia Entertainment and Select Media announce a 2027 film based on Barbarik’s journey and his transformation into the revered Khatu Shyam Baba.

Abundantia Entertainment has announced a collaboration with Select Media for a new devotional feature film titled ‘Haare Ka Sahara, Baba Khatu Shyam Hamara’. The film is inspired by the widely revered story of Shri Khatu Shyam Ji, also lovingly known as Shyam Baba among his devotees. The makers have announced that the film will be released theatrically in 2027 and will explore the story of faith, sacrifice and hope associated with the deity.

The film will focus on the extraordinary journey of Barbarik, the valiant warrior from the Mahabharata. According to the revered tradition surrounding Khatu Shyam Baba, Barbarik was granted eternal life by Lord Krishna and later came to be worshipped as Khatu Shyam Baba. The film will look at this journey and the place that faith in Shyam Baba continues to hold in the lives of millions of devotees.

Khatu Shyam Baba is lovingly called “Haare Ka Sahara”, a phrase that refers to the belief that he provides support to those who have lost hope. His principal shrine at Khatu in Rajasthan’s Sikar district is regarded as an important centre of devotional faith. The temple attracts large numbers of devotees and pilgrims from different parts of India and around the world.

The collaboration between Abundantia Entertainment and Select Media is aimed at bringing this story to audiences with attention to its cultural and spiritual significance. The makers have said that they intend to focus on the emotional depth of the story while also maintaining authenticity in presenting the traditions connected with Shyam Baba.

As part of the creative process, the team plans to work with scholars, spiritual advisers and people who have a deep understanding of the devotional traditions associated with Khatu Shyam Baba. This approach is intended to help the filmmakers present the story with the required respect and understanding.

The film will therefore explore not only the story of Barbarik but also the continuing importance of Khatu Shyam Baba in devotional life. With its theatrical release planned for 2027, the project will bring a well known spiritual tradition and its historical and religious narrative to a wider audience through cinema.
