Kriti Sanon has become the centre of an online debate after appearing in a Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement. The actress wore a modern fusion outfit featuring a bralette style blouse, a cape and a draped skirt. While some social media users felt the outfit was not suitable for a festive campaign, others defended Kriti and said women should not be judged based on their clothes.
The advertisement also features Kriti tying a rakhi to a dog after the pet barks at her. This part of the campaign also received mixed reactions. Some users questioned the decision to include a pet in a Raksha Bandhan advertisement, while others mainly focused on Kriti’s outfit and felt it did not match the traditional nature of the festival.
One social media user even demanded action against the actress, writing, “A FIR be filed against
@kritisanon for perverted portrayal of brother sister festival of rakhi & hurting the dharmik sentiments of hindus u/s 299 BNS— Deliberate & Malicious Acts to insult religious beliefs through visual or electronic means punishment up to 3 years in prison (sic).”
Another user criticised the outfit and wrote, “Why is the boy wearing full traditional clothes?? He should also wear gym vest.🤣🤣 Ppl dress according to occassions, thats common sense. Thats Raksha Bandhan, not someone’s private party.”
Some reactions also brought religion into the discussion, with users questioning whether similar criticism would happen if such an outfit appeared in advertisements connected to Eid or Christmas.
However, several people came out in support of Kriti. They argued that the outfit was simply a modern interpretation of festive clothing and that people should not decide what women can or cannot wear. Raksha Bandhan 2026 will be celebrated on August 28. The festival celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, with sisters traditionally tying a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists and praying for their well being.
On the work front, Kriti was most recently seen in Homi Adajania’s Cocktail 2, which released in theatres on June 19, 2026. The film also stars Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna and began streaming on Netflix on August 14.
