The first teaser of Last Man In Tower, starring Manoj Bajpayee, has been released ahead of its theatrical debut in India. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 11 and is based on the novel of the same name by author Aravind Adiga. Directed by Ben Rekhi, the film is produced by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media. It also marks the first time Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani will share the screen, bringing the two acclaimed actors together for the first time.
The story follows Masterji, a retired schoolteacher who finds himself caught in a difficult situation involving his neighbours and the community around him. When he refuses to accept a decision that others are willing to go along with, his personal stand slowly develops into a much bigger conflict.
Masterji’s decision affects not only his own life but also the people living around him. The story looks at how people react when they are forced to choose between what they believe is right and what may be easier for everyone involved.
The film is adapted from Aravind Adiga’s novel Last Man in Tower. Adiga is also known for The White Tiger, which won the Booker Prize. The screenplay for the film has been written by Sooni Taraporevala, while Juhi Chaturvedi has written the Hindi language dialogue.
Divya Dutta is also part of the principal cast, playing Mrs. Puri, whose choices become connected to the larger conflict surrounding Masterji. Sukant Goel is also part of the cast.
The teaser introduces a story built around resistance, community pressure and difficult personal choices. Masterji’s refusal to change his position puts him directly against people he has known for years, creating tension within the neighbourhood.
The film explores how a single decision can affect an entire group of people and how different individuals respond when their personal interests are challenged. Rather than presenting the conflict in simple terms, the story focuses on the compromises people make and the values they are willing to protect.
The technical team includes composer Govind Vasantha and cinematographer Rangarajan Ramabadran. Guneet Dogra and Pratiksha Rao have also joined Rana Daggubati as producers.
Last Man In Tower opens in Indian theatres on September 11.
