Farah Khan’s directorial debut Main Hoon Na, starring Shah Rukh Khan, continues to remain a favourite among Hindi film fans more than two decades after its release in 2004. From its memorable characters and popular songs to the chemistry between the cast, the film has retained its place in Bollywood conversations. Now, a social media exchange between Farah and actor Arjun Kapoor has brought fresh attention to the possibility of a sequel.
On Thursday, Arjun shared an Instagram story showing him watching Main Hoon Na on television in a hotel room. He expressed his wish for a follow up, writing, “The joy of watching your all time fav film randomly on tv as you check in into a hotel in this digital era… We need a sequel asap!!!”

Arjun tagged Farah in the post, prompting a playful response from the filmmaker. She replied, “Hahaha… agar kisi cheez ko dil se maango… @arjunkapoor lov u (sic).” Her message appeared to reference Shah Rukh Khan’s famous dialogue from Om Shanti Om, Farah’s 2007 film that followed Main Hoon Na. The exchange has led fans to wonder whether the filmmaker was hinting at a possible sequel, although no such project has been confirmed.
Earlier, rumours about Main Hoon Na 2 began circulating after Farah announced that her next directorial venture would feature Shah Rukh Khan. However, the filmmaker has denied that the project is a sequel. Speaking to The Times of India, she said, “Don’t believe in all these rumours.”
Farah and Shah Rukh have collaborated on three films, Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year. In January, Farah also spoke about her plans to return to direction during a vlog filmed at actor Nakuul Mehta’s Mumbai home.
Farah said, “Abhi banaungi main! Abhi bachche chaley jayenge na college fir banaungi! There is a whole petition on the internet called wapas aao Farah Khan (I will make a film soon! My kids are going to college so I will make it after that. There is a whole petition for me to return to direction)! So I think it is time; I think at the end of this year I will start.”
Released in 2004, Main Hoon Na starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Suniel Shetty, Amrita Rao and Zayed Khan. The film followed Major Ram, who goes undercover as a college student during a military mission, while also exploring family bonds and his relationship with his half brother Lakshman.
