Fashion designer Masaba Gupta has praised Bipasha Basu after sharing the actress’ latest Elle India digital magazine cover. While Masaba’s post was largely about Bipasha’s fitness, individuality and long standing presence in Bollywood, one particular comment quickly caught the attention of social media users. Some fans connected her words to an old remark made by actress Mrunal Thakur about Bipasha’s muscular physique.
Sharing Bipasha’s magazine cover on social media, Masaba called her “the last of the OGs” and said she was happy to see the actress featured on a cover. She also praised Bipasha for having a distinct identity in the film industry at a time when she feels many celebrities follow similar styles and images.
Masaba wrote, “I am very happy to see Bipasha on a cover. You see, she is the last of the OGs.” She went on to highlight how different Bipasha has been from many other actors, saying, “There won’t be another Bipasha because everything is a cookie cutter template today.”

Masaba further compared Bipasha with the current generation of stars and described many of them as “boring and dull.” She also said that the present generation “does not inspire one bit of confidence.”
However, it was Masaba’s comments about Bipasha’s fitness that created the biggest buzz. Praising the actress’ athletic body, she wrote, “And @bipashabasu- I love your athletic build. I love the muscle- and I want more thanks to the standard of fitness you set.”
She then added, “Too bad if someone doesn’t see that as feminine.”
Masaba did not mention Mrunal Thakur in her post. However, several social media users felt the statement reminded them of a controversial comment Mrunal had made about Bipasha years ago.
An old interview featuring Mrunal resurfaced online in 2025. During the conversation, she discussed fitness and referred to Bipasha while talking about her preferred physique. Her comment was criticised by many users, who felt it unfairly described a muscular woman as “manly.”

After the old clip went viral, Mrunal apologised and explained that she was only 19 when she made the remark. She said she did not understand the impact of her words at the time and admitted that she would have expressed herself differently.
Masaba’s latest post has now brought that old controversy back into online discussions, even though she did not directly name Mrunal.
