Mirzapur: The Movie has recorded a strong hold at the Indian box office on its first Monday. The film collected approximately Rs. 16 crore nett, which is around a 35 per cent drop from its opening day collection of Rs. 25.00 cr. At first glance, the decline may appear significant, but the opening day benefited from the Janmashtami holiday. When that holiday boost is taken into account, the actual decline is closer to 20 per cent, making the Monday performance even stronger. The film is also running discount offers today, while advance bookings remain strong, which could help collections rise further.
After four days, Mirzapur: The Movie has collected approximately Rs. 107.50 crore nett in India. The film had a strong weekend, earning Rs. 25.00 cr. on Friday, Rs. 31.50 cr. on Saturday and Rs. 35.00 cr. on Sunday before adding another Rs. 16.00 cr. on Monday. Based on this pace, the first week could finish in the range of Rs. 145-150 crore nett.
A Monday hold of this level would normally be enough to put a film firmly in the BLOCKBUSTER category. However, there is some reason to wait before making that final call. Several recent films have shown strong Monday collections but did not maintain the same momentum during the rest of their theatrical runs. Awarapan 2, Welcome to the Jungle, Dhamaal 4 and Border 2 are examples of films where the final result did not completely match what their Monday performances had suggested.
Mirzapur: The Movie, however, has a few advantages. Its Monday hold is stronger than those films, it currently faces a favourable situation in terms of competition, and even if its future performance follows the pattern of Dhamaal 4 and Border 2, it could still reach the BLOCKBUSTER level. For that reason, the Wednesday collection will be important before a final verdict is given.
The Hindi film industry has also enjoyed a healthy theatrical run since Welcome to the Jungle released at the end of June. Several films have delivered strong results, while even some underperformers managed decent openings. With a promising line up still ahead, 2026 could potentially become the strongest post pandemic year for Hindi cinema.
