Veteran actor Paresh Rawal recently shared an unconventional method he believes helped speed up his recovery from a knee injury sustained during the filming of Ghatak, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Rawal revealed that he drank his own urine for 15 days, following advice from the late action director Veeru Devgan.
Injury on the Set of Ghatak
While shooting a scene with actor Rakesh Pandey, Rawal injured his leg, prompting immediate concern from the crew. Fellow actors Tinnu Anand and Danny Denzongpa rushed him to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. The injury left him fearful about the future of his acting career. “I was petrified. I thought it was the end of my career,” Rawal confessed during an interview with The Lallantop.
Advice from Veeru Devgan
During his hospital stay, Rawal received a visit from Veeru Devgan, a respected figure in Bollywood’s action circles. Devgan offered an unconventional remedy. “He told me to drink my own urine first thing in the morning. All fighters do this. You will never face any problem,” Rawal recalled. Devgan also advised him to avoid alcohol, tobacco, and red meat, suggesting he stick to simple food and follow the urine therapy consistently.
Following Through with Determination
Although initially skeptical, Rawal decided to give it a sincere try. “If I have to follow through, I will do so properly,” he said. He didn’t just gulp it down he sipped it like beer, determined to make the most of the advice. He continued the routine for 15 days.
I drank my first urine of the day like beer for 15 days, and my X Ray was CLEAR.

Faster-Than-Expected Healing
Surprisingly, Rawal’s recovery was faster than expected. Doctors, upon reviewing follow-up X-rays, noticed a white lining indicating healing. While such injuries typically take 2 to 2.5 months to recover, Rawal healed within a month and a half. Even the doctors were amazed at the speed of recovery.
Upcoming Projects
On the professional front, Paresh Rawal is set to appear in Priyadarshan’s horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, alongside Akshay Kumar and Tabu. He also has the much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3 lined up with co-stars Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty.
