Baba Siddique, a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was tragically shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday. The incident occurred outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra East, where he was attacked by three assailants. Reports indicate that two to three rounds were fired, and Siddique was quickly rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The police have detained two suspects connected to the shooting, with one of them reportedly from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana. A third assailant is still at large, and authorities are actively pursuing him.
Siddique had a long political career, serving as a three-term MLA from Bandra West and holding various ministerial positions in the early 2000s. Earlier this year, he had resigned from the Congress party after a 48-year affiliation, joining Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP instead. His assassination has raised concerns about political violence in the region, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Further investigations are underway as teams have been deployed to the area.
This event marks a significant loss for the political landscape in Maharashtra, where Siddique was known for his contributions and public service.
