Ram Mandir watch controversy! Muslim cleric calls out Salman Khan for ‘haram’ fashion choice

Barelvi cleric and All India Muslim Jamaat president, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, has stirred controversy by declaring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s limited edition ‘Ram Janmabhoomi’ watch as haram (forbidden in Islam). The statement has sparked widespread discussions about the intersection of religion, culture, and celebrity influence in India.

The Watch That Caught Attention

Salman Khan’s choice of accessory during the promotion of his upcoming film Sikandar drew significant attention. The actor showcased the Jacob & Co. Epic X Ram Janmabhoomi Titanium Edition 2, featuring a sleek gold dial paired with an orange strap—symbolizing the colors associated with the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The watch, priced at an eye-watering ₹34 lakh, is more than just a timepiece; it’s a blend of luxury and cultural symbolism, with intricate designs inspired by the Ram Janmabhoomi temple’s architecture.

Maulana Razvi’s Statement on the Issue

Speaking to the media on Friday, Maulana Razvi responded to queries about Salman Khan’s choice, stating, “I have been asked about Shariat’s ruling about Salman Khan. I tell you the Shariat’s ruling about the work done by him, that he is wearing a Ram Edition watch made for the promotion of Ram Mandir. Wearing such a watch in hand being a Muslim is illegal and haram.”

He further emphasized the weight of Khan’s influence, saying, “Salman Khan is a famous personality of India. He has millions of fans and he is also a Muslim. If any Muslim, even if it is Salman Khan, is promoting the Ram Mandir or any other non-Muslim thing, it is considered illegal and haram. I urge Salman Khan to follow the principles of Shariat.”

Public Reaction and Social Media Buzz

The cleric’s remarks have divided opinions online. Some support Maulana Razvi’s stance, emphasizing religious boundaries, while others argue for individual freedom of expression, pointing out that the watch is a symbol of Indian heritage, not necessarily a religious endorsement.

Salman Khan has not publicly responded to the controversy yet. His fans and followers continue to debate whether wearing such a watch crosses any religious lines or simply reflects an appreciation for Indian culture.

The incident highlights the growing influence of social media in shaping public discourse, where celebrity choices often become subjects of intense scrutiny and debate.
