Veteran director B Subhash is said to be planning to re-launch the classic 1982 musical blockbuster Disco Dancer with a sequel. The classic, which launched Mithun Chakraborty to superstardom, is going to be given a modern twist, and if rumors are anything to go by, Ranbir Kapoor or Allu Arjun are among the strongest contenders for the male lead. Although no statement has come, the news has already set the excitement train rolling among fans.
Legal Green Light and Casting Speculations
Subhash has confirmed Disco Dancer 2 in the making, according to Mid-Day. The venture just got a green light from the Bombay High Court after clearing persistent issues over copyrights. The director said he would love to cast either Ranbir or Allu Arjun, both of whom he commended for their acting talent and dancing skills.
In an interview with News18 Showsha, Subhash expressed his joy over Mithun Chakraborty being awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. “It is as if our film won the award,” he joked, referring to the rapport he still enjoys with the actor, whom he first cast against all odds in Taqdeer Ka Badshah.
What’s Next for the Stars
Ranbir Kapoor is currently working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. A major schedule is planned in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh—known for its rich military history and colonial-era charm, perfectly aligning with the film’s pre-independence setting.
Allu Arjun, on the other hand, is preparing for Atlee’s ambitious multi-starrer AA22xA6, featuring Deepika Padukone, Rashmika Mandanna, Janhvi Kapoor, and Mrunal Thakur. The pan-India film is likely to hit the screens late in 2026 or early 2027.
With the legendary legacies, star power, and promising projects converging, Disco Dancer 2 may be another page-turning chapter in the musical history of Bollywood.
