Veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor, known for his romantic on-screen image, once found himself surrounded by swirling rumours linking him to several actresses, including Juhi Chawla and Amrita Singh. While these speculations created quite a stir in the 90s, Rishi addressed them head-on in a candid interview with Movie Magazine in 1997, calling the gossip nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Rishi Kapoor and Juhi Chawla shared excellent chemistry in popular films like Bol Radha Bol and Saajan Ka Ghar, leading to buzz about a real-life affair. However, Rishi shut down the rumours, revealing that the supposed link-up was orchestrated for media attention. “Juhi’s was a publicity gimmick. I was brain-washed into complying with it because I was informed that I had this phenomenal romantic image on screen, so I should have a romantic rendezvous with Juhi,” he said.
Rishi Rejects Charges Against Amrita Singh
The actor also refuted similar gossip with actress Amrita Singh. He was swift to deny romantic involvement, simply saying, “Juhi and Amrita Singh? Bull. Amrita was not my type.” Rishi clarified that there was no truth to the rumour and that such stories were only attempts at capitalizing on his image for publicity.
Respect for Co-Stars and Clarifying Boundaries
During the same interview, Rishi Kapoor lashed out against constant rumours that cast him alongside newbies and co-stars. He justified his behavior by pointing out that he had launched many actresses into the business and had always been courteous towards them. “I’m the hero who brought the maximum number of new girls. If I didn’t proposition them, why would I pursue bloody tarts, yaar? ” he argued heatedly. He also named actresses Kajal, Kiron, and Padmini Kolhapure, saying he had treated them like children.
