Bollywood megastar Salman Khan made news in recent times with a candid admission on The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix. The 59-year-old superstar revealed that he is fighting three serious medical conditions brain aneurysm, trigeminal neuralgia, and arteriovenous (AV) malformation but is still working in spite of the physical burden.
Brain Aneurysm: A Silent Threat
Salman disclosed that he suffers from a brain aneurysm, which is when a weakened point on a blood vessel in the brain balloons out because of pressure. Although most aneurysms are not problematic, others can burst, resulting in a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a stroke. The bursting can result in severe headaches, loss of consciousness, seizures, and death if left untreated. Risk factors are smoking, alcohol, high pressure, drug abuse, and genetic diseases.
Trigeminal Neuralgia: Electric-Shock Pain
Trigeminal neuralgia is also suffered by the actor, where sudden, stabbing facial pain is caused by a condition often brought on by simple daily activities such as eating or talking. It can be caused by compression of nerves by blood vessels, multiple sclerosis, tumors, or facial trauma. Two forms exist:
Type 1 (Typical TN): Electric-shock-like sharp, stabbing pain in bursts.
Type 2 (Atypical TN): Continuous, burning or aching pain.
AV Malformation: A Dangerous Vascular Condition
Khan’s third requirement, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), is a twisted matrix of arteries and veins that cut across normal blood flow. Most lethal when occurring within the brain, AVMs can cause seizures, headaches, speech difficulties, and in most instances, spontaneous brain hemorrhage. They are typically congenital, though commonly remain undiagnosed for several years.
With these potentially life-debilitating health issues, Salman Khan remains devoted to his professional responsibilities, a testament to perseverance and commitment.
