Sanjay Dutt, born on 29 July 1959, is one of Bollywood’s most celebrated and enduring actors. The son of legendary actor-politicians Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay’s legacy in the film industry is as prominent as his personal journey, which has been filled with both triumphs and challenges.

Early Career and Struggles

Sanjay’s first film as an actor was Rocky in 1981, which was produced by his father. His film career really went on the ascendant with Naam in 1986, wherein he received extensive acclaim for his performance. Years later, Sanjay acted in some super hit films such as Imaandaar, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, and Hum Bhi Insaan Hain. However, there was a phase in the early 90s when he faced severe setbacks, giving 13 flops in a row, which included Johny I Love You and Mera Faisla.

Turning Point and Legal Troubles

In 1993, Sanjay’s career saw a revival with the superhit film Khalnayak (1993), which became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. But just as his career was gaining momentum, Sanjay’s life took a dramatic turn when he was arrested for allegedly possessing illegal weapons connected to the 1993 Mumbai bombings. He was convicted and spent time in prison, but in 2007, all charges of terrorism were cleared. Despite the hurdles, Sanjay continued to remain a beloved figure in the industry.

Personal Life and Health Struggles

Sanjay’s personal life has been no less tumultuous. His first wife, Richa, tragically passed away from cancer at the age of 32. He remarried Rhea Pillai, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2008. In 2020, Sanjay was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, a devastating blow. However, after undergoing treatment, he triumphantly declared himself cancer-free by October 2020.

Epic Comeback and Success in 2020

Sanjay made a powerful comeback in 2022 with his role in KGF Chapter 2, which became a massive box-office success, grossing Rs 1200 crore worldwide. He also appeared in a negative role in a Tamil film in 2023, proving that his star power remains as strong as ever. Sanjay Dutt’s journey is a testament to his resilience, and his return to the screen was nothing short of epic.
