Singer Sonu Nigam has clarified that he had no connection with a statement that was recently attributed to him amid the controversy surrounding Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement for jewellery brand GIVA. The confusion began after a post on X by another person named Sonu Nigam Singh was reported as a statement from the popular singer. As the report started circulating, Sonu Nigam stepped in to make it clear that he was not the person behind the post.
On Thursday, Sonu Nigam shared a screenshot of the report on his official Instagram account and strongly denied having made the comment. He wrote, “This is not me and this has never been me!” The singer has also repeatedly clarified in the past that he is not active on X or Twitter. The confusion appears to have happened because the X account involved in the matter belongs to another person who uses the name Sonu Nigam Singh.
Following the singer’s clarification, Sonu Nigam Singh also addressed the issue on X. He confirmed that the post mentioned in the report was published from his own account, @SonuNigamSingh, and said that media organisations should verify social media accounts before attributing statements to celebrities. He wrote, “For clarity, the post was published from my account, @SonuNigamSingh. The singer has now also publicly clarified that the post is not his. I request media organisations to verify the source account before attributing statements, especially when two people share the same name.”

उदाहरण… pic.twitter.com/7KwZprdL6w
The mix up comes at a time when GIVA’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring Kriti Sanon has been facing criticism online. The 36 second advertisement showed Kriti wearing an ivory bralette style blouse with a cape and a draped skirt. She was seen celebrating Raksha Bandhan by tying a rakhi to her brother as well as her pet dog. The campaign aimed to promote the idea that pets are also an important part of the family.
However, the advertisement quickly became controversial, with some viewers objecting to Kriti’s outfit and questioning the way the traditional festival was presented. The criticism grew across social media, eventually prompting GIVA to remove the advertisement from all platforms.
In its statement, GIVA said that it deeply respects Indian culture, traditions and festivals. The brand explained that its intention was to include pets in the family celebration and said it never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings. The company added, “If our recent advertisement has inadvertently hurt the sentiments of some segments of society, that was not our intent at all. Out of respect, we have withdrawn the said advertisement from all media.”
The Sonu Nigam clarification now puts an end to the confusion over who made the statement, while the wider debate around the GIVA advertisement continues online.
