Salman Khan and filmmaker Subhash Ghai worked together on Yuvvraaj in 2008, but their collaboration came after a major personal fallout. The two had reportedly been involved in a heated argument that later turned into a scuffle, forcing Salman’s father Salim Khan to step in and resolve the situation.
In a recent interview with Times Now, Subhash Ghai recalled how he eventually ended up directing Salman in Yuvvraaj. According to Ghai, the idea of working together came after Salman’s brother approached him about making a film with the actor.
“For Yuvvraaj, Salman Khan’s brother approached me and said, ‘Why don’t you make a film with Salman?’ I said, ‘Is Salman keen? Because I have never worked with him.’ He said, ‘He is keen.’ After this, I wrote a story. My challenge is that I must cast an actor in a role he has never done before.”
Ghai then remembered the incident that had created tension between them before the film. “Before the film, we had a fight. Hatha paai hui (we had a scuffle). Then his father scolded him.”
The filmmaker explained that the incident happened during a party where Salman had been drinking. According to Ghai, the actor questioned some of his decisions as a director, which eventually led to an argument.
“We were at a party. Salman was high. He was saying something wrong when I told him, ‘Don’t say that.’ He had some issue with me. He asked me, ‘Why did you do this or that?’ I said it is my decision as a director. He started abusing [me], I asked him not to do that. We had a spat there.”
Ghai said the matter was resolved the following morning when Salim Khan contacted him. He explained that Salim had spoken to Salman about the incident and asked him to apologise.
“The very next morning, Salim saheb called me and told me that Salman told all of these things to his mother. He said, ‘I have scolded him.’ He sent Salman to my house to apologise to me. And he came. He politely apologised, after which I fell in love with him because he respected his father so much. I let go of that issue. We often visited each other. After that, we did a film together,” Ghai recalled.
Despite bringing together Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, Yuvvraaj did not perform well at the box office.
The 2008 film revolves around three estranged brothers, Deven, Gyanesh and Danny, who reunite after their wealthy father dies. Their relationship becomes complicated when they learn about his massive inheritance and believe they have a right to it.
