Filmmaker and writer Tahira Kashyap, wife of Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, has courageously announced the relapse of her breast cancer. The 43-year-old initially fought stage 0 breast cancer, or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), in 2018. Now, seven years on, she is confronting the challenge once again, but with a positive and determined attitude.
A Heartfelt Message to Survivors
In an influential social media post, Tahira highlighted the importance of routine mammograms, particularly for breast cancer survivors. Reminiscing about her diagnosis, she penned, “Seven year itch or the power of regular screening – it’s a perspective, I’d like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me… I still got this.” Her post inspired many, encouraging people to take care of their health.

Turning Lemons Into Lemonade
In her blog, Tahira smartly employed a metaphor to explain her continuing struggle. She remarked, “When life gives lemons, you make lemonade. When life gets too magnanimous and tosses them again in your direction, you squeeze them placidly into your favorite drink of kala khatta and sip on it with best intentions.” She went on encouraging others by putting in, “Because for one, it is a better beverage, and two, you are sure you shall give it the best once more.”
Tahira also recognized that her post came on World Health Day, and she highlighted the need to prioritize one’s health.
Spreading Awareness and Gratitude
Having had a mastectomy seven years prior, Tahira has been open about her cancer experience and has since strived to raise awareness regarding breast cancer. Through her ongoing candor, she continues to be an inspiration to many in the battle against the disease.
