Immediate reaction when the end credits roll
Wow!!, this 87 odd minutes of sheer creature feature delight is just terrific. CRAWL delivers the promised shocks with a degree of expertise that penetrates with those rare bloody teeth’s.  A terrifically terrifying fun on screen.

The Story of CRAWL
When a massive hurricane hits her Florida hometown, Haley (Kaya Scodelario) ignores evacuation orders to search for her missing father (Barry Pepper). Finding him gravely injured in the crawl space of their family home, the two become trapped by quickly encroaching floodwaters. As time runs out to escape the strengthening storm, Haley and her father discover that the rising water level is the least of their fears.

CRAWL movie review
It’s a lean -and-mean thriller in the genre after GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, but with a difference. French helmer Alexandre Aja known for that nasty HIGH TENSION, the unique PIRANHA 3D and of course the remake of THE HILLS HAVE EYES, delivers a fast pace 87 odd minutes of a bloody adventure that warns about the evils of mother nature and in due course offers an ode to father-daughter relationship as well.

By plot which bears similarity with THE SHALLOWS (2016) in a way where a woman has to gain an upper hand against a hungry shark, CRAWL has absolutely nothing new to offer in the story department where logic goes for toss and authenticity gets questioned when a story said to be taking place in costal Florida is actually shot in Serbia. But Alexandre Aja remarkably overcomes the mediocrity in the plot/story with such an outstanding execution that after 10 – 15 minutes, it’s impossible for anyone to even blink for a second.

The concentration is on to provide clean, coherent monster/creature action horror and it done with authority. Aja smartly creates the environment, the setting the lighting (storm-blackened sky) with élan.  Kaya Scodelario is fabulous as Haley, you don,t forget to admire her brilliance while Aja is busy surprising you with those reptiles coming suddenly and as you think one was enough, boom. The CGI deserves special mentioned.

Final words
CRAWL is a terrifically terrifying creature feature, a nerves buckling “Aqua Horror”. Whoever goes to watch a creature feature knows what it should deliver, the trills are important rather than skills in story.

CRAWL delivers in thrills and Aja in his story telling arc gives a horror that is bloody crunchy in combing nature with those deadly mega-lizards.
