Ben Affleck opens up about Jennifer Lopez divorce! It feels vulnerable – You won’t believe what he said

Ben Affleck has decided to keep the real reasons for his divorce from Jennifer Lopez a secret. The couple, who rekindled their romance and wed in 2022, finalized their divorce earlier this year, two years into their union. In an open interview with GQ’s April 2025 cover, Affleck, 52, spoke about the breakup but decided not to go into details, saying he would feel embarrassed.

No Major Incident Behind the Breakup

Affleck stressed that there was no major scandal or incident that caused their divorce. “The truth is, when people ask, ‘Hey, what happened? ‘ there’s no big event or moment,” he said. He defined their breakup as an ordinary tale of two individuals living their lives and building their relationships.

The actor thought that as he’s gotten older, he’s realized that most relationships fall apart because there was an accumulation of little things that happened instead of one great big thing.

Avoiding Vulnerability

Talking about the collapse of their relationship was too “vulnerable” and “embarrassing” for Affleck, as he put it in the interview. “You begin going, ‘Okay, clearly this person has these issues, and clearly, they have those issues,'” he added, stating that he wasn’t at ease to provide such intimate information.

Reflection on Documentary

Affleck also spoke about his participation in Lopez’s 2024 documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which chronicled their rekindled romance and marriage. He added that even though the documentary provided a candid glimpse into their relationship, it did not affect their subsequent divorce. “It’s not like you can see that documentary and all of a sudden get it about the problems we had,” he said.

Admiring Lopez’s Grace Under Fame Affleck paused to compliment Lopez on how she has handled fame graciously. “Jennifer has dealt with celebrity more skillfully and cleverly than I have,” he acknowledged, noting his own more private and reserved personality in contrast to her celebrity image.
