Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Day Drinker, an upcoming thriller directed by Marc Webb. Starring Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz, the film is set on the high seas and follows a story involving crime, mystery and revenge. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on March 26, 2027.
The story follows a bartender, played by Cline, who works on a private yacht. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets a mysterious grey haired guest, played by Depp. What begins as a chance meeting soon leads her into a dangerous situation involving a ruthless criminal, portrayed by Cruz.
The trailer sets a dark and mysterious mood as Depp’s character reflects on the events surrounding him. His words leave viewers wondering whether the story is about revenge, something supernatural or simply a man known as a day drinker. In the trailer, Depp’s character says, “My story? Perhaps it’s a tale of revenge. Or perhaps something worse. What if all of this is a ghost story? Or maybe I’m just another day drinker?”
The film brings together three actors from different backgrounds for a story set largely on the water. Cline, who became widely known for her role in Netflix’s Outer Banks, takes on her first major film project following the conclusion of the series.
For Depp and Cruz, Day Drinker marks a return to a major studio production after their work in independent films. Both actors spent 2026 starring in projects including La Bola Negra, The Invite and Bunker.
Marc Webb, known for directing films across different genres, takes charge of the upcoming thriller. The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean and Nathan Kahane.
With its setting on a private yacht and a story built around a mysterious stranger, Day Drinker brings together elements of crime, suspense and possible supernatural mystery. The trailer introduces the central characters while keeping the full details of the plot under wraps.
